| It is the belief of the Oakville Parent-Child Centre that parents/caregivers are their children’s first and most
influential teachers and that the early years lay the foundation for children’s
success in school and in life. The Lunch & Learn program is designed
with sensitivity to schedules and requirements of working parents. The
curriculum of the Lunch & Learn Program will provide the working parent
with support and information on their developing child. To help parents
understand what to expect during each stage of their child’s development
and offer parents practical ways to encourage learning, manage challenging
behaviour, and most importantly, promote strong parent-child relationships.

Research from
the Child Care Education Foundation, says that today, it costs Canada $2.5
billion every year for remedial education because of delayed interventions
or early negative experiences. Work – family conflicts cost businesses
another $4.7 billion a year.
Proactive parent involvement policies
and practices need to be put in place within the work environment. Parents
need to know that their employers are willing to support and encourage
them as they seek to implement change. Supporting parent and family involvement
need not be expensive, but financial resources as well as moral support
improve chances of success. |
