PARENTING CLASSES / WORKSHOPS

Our programs for grown-ups offer information, advice, a chance to meet others and make friends, as well as, a break from the kids!  The age group of the children that is covered in the course material is indicated beside the program name. 

The following programs, offered during the day, may include childcare in our preschool and nursery rooms. Supervised by qualified staff, we provide a program for children two to five years, which offers free play, crafts and circle activities.  A fully equipped nursery offers tender, loving care for infants and toddlers under two years of age.  For all of these programs, registration is required.

TODDLER COPE (12 to 36 months) – 8 WEEKS 
Community facilitators will use videos, skill building exercises and discussion to help parents work together to find answer to common questions about parenting toddlers.

TODDLER TWO STEP (12 to 30 months) – 6 WEEKS 
Does your Toddler have you dancing in circles?  Stay two steps ahead of them!  We'll spend six weeks talking and learning about this busy time.  Topics include ages and stages, self-esteem, eating, sleeping, toilet learning and activities to keep them busy. 

BABES & TODDLERS (18 to 14 months) – 6 WEEKS 
What an incredible change - becoming a mom!  With your little one in tow, we'll discuss how children learn through play, stages of development, introducing foods and much more.  Offered in partnership with the Halton Region Health Department. 

YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE (18 month to 4 years) – 8 WEEKS 
Connecting with your child  in a way that makes them feel loved and listened to helps them communicate and learn. In this 8 week program we will explore some simple things that you can do to connect with your child and enhance his ability to explore, communicate and understand his world. 

DISCIPLINE DILEMMA (2½ to 5 years) - 6 WEEKS 
At your wits end wondering what to do next?  Join us for this 6-week discipline series as we explore the reasons children behave the way they do.  We will also discuss ways to respond to your child's behaviour in a positive, nurturing and constructive way.  Childcare is available for newborn to 5 years.     

SMALL FRIES (2½ to 5 years) - 6 WEEKS 
At your wits' end wondering what to do next?  Join us for this six-week discipline series as we explore the reasons children behave the way they do.  We will also discuss ways to respond to your child's behaviour in a positive, nurturing and constructive way. 

RAISING SIBLINGS (Newborn to 5 years) – 3 WEEKS $
Having more than one child requires more from parents...MORE ideas, MORE understanding, and MORE parenting strategies.  In this workshop we will discuss the joys and challenges of raising siblings.  Based on "Siblings Without Rivalry" and "Stop It You Two", we will explore siblings behaviour and what you can do to encourage loving family relationships. 

 

KIDS HAVE STRESS TOO (3 to 5 years) – 3 WEEKS $
Even young children can learn physical and mental strategies to relieve stress and find ways to respond to stressful situations.  This three week program is designed to help parents and caregivers better understand stress and help teach their children ways to manage it. 


MOTHERS ARE PEOPLE TOO – 12 WEEKS 
An excellent selection of guest speakers visit the Centre each week to discuss family, parenting and women's issues.

FIND YOUR JOY – 6 WEEKS (newborn to 6 years) $
Come and talk about how to create space in your life for happiness.  Through exercises and fun activities, you will enjoy getting to know yourself better and kick-start a new and improved self-esteem.  You will learn how to enjoy living in the present moment and how to support a loving kindness directed at yourself.  You give so much of yourself to others - learn how to make choices that contribute to YOUR joy and rekindle your passion.

 


SCHOOL AGE WORKSHOPS

NEGOTIATION AND COMPROMISE (5 to 10 year olds) $ 2 hour workshop
You survived toilet training and temper tantrums...and now your child is school age.  You are facing a whole new set of challenges.  We will explore ways to resolve conflicts and provide win-win situations for you and your child.  Family meetings, contracts and other tools will be examined.  Join us for this opportunity to brainstorm and share ideas.

ANXIETY & STRESS IN CHILDREN (5 to 10 years) $ 2 hour workshop
Join us for this 2-hour workshop where Parents will learn strategies to help their school aged children deal with stress and anxiety.

TEENS & TWEENS (10 +) $ 2 hour workshop
Come and find out what is going on (and not going on) in the brains of your adolescents and pre-adolescents.  A must for anyone with kids this age...and for those whose kids are not quite there...it's only a matter of time!
