About Oakville Parent-Child Centre

During the early years, you deserve a place where questions are welcomed, support is close by, and your family has room to learn and grow together. We’re here to be that place for you and your family.

Why OPCC?

The early years of a child’s life are full of important decisions for parents and caregivers. Finding reliable information, understanding what’s best for your child, and feeling confident in the decisions you make can be challenging on your own.

Oakville Parent-Child Centre exists to provide a place where you can turn for that support.

Our aim is to create environments where your children can develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively through play, while you have access to guidance, connection, and practical resources.

We focus on supporting both the child and the caregiver, recognizing that strong outcomes for children are closely tied to confident, informed families.

As a charity and community-based organization, we aim to reduce uncertainty for parents by offering programs and services that are accessible, developmentally grounded, and connected. Families can engage in ways that fit their needs, at different stages, without pressure to follow a single path.

Our History

Oakville Parent-Child Centre began in 1980, when two Oakville mothers, Jill Snidal and Anne Day, saw a gap in early childhood and parent support in the community. Their first program, “Mothers are People Too,” started in the basement of a local church, giving parents a place to meet, share experiences, and feel less alone while raising young children.

What began as a volunteer-led response to a local need grew into a not-for-profit organization incorporated in Ontario in 1983. Since then, OPCC has continued to evolve with the needs of Oakville families, expanding from its earliest parent support programs into a community-based centre offering EarlyON programs, licensed childcare, outdoor programs, parenting support, workshops, and other family resources.

Who We Are

Our team is the heart of everything we do. At OPCC, we bring together experienced early childhood educators, family support professionals, and dedicated staff who understand the importance of the early years for both children and caregivers.

Each member of our team contributes practical knowledge, thoughtful guidance, and a consistent presence for families to rely on. Whether supporting a child through play-based learning or helping a parent or caregiver navigate questions about development, our focus is on creating environments where families feel informed, supported, and comfortable returning.
