Community Family Support Services and Resources

Finding the right support can feel easier when families know where to start. OPCC helps parents and caregivers access family and community support services, trusted information, and practical resources that support children and families through everyday questions, developmental concerns, and changing needs.

About Community Services

At times, some families need a little more help than others. Sometimes the next step is a developmental screening, or a brief consultation with a professional. Sometimes it’s access to more parenting resources to help you feel more informed. We’ve compiled a list of community support services to help connect you with resources, information, and practical next steps for you and your family.

Community Services

ErinoakKids

ErinoakKids is Ontario’s largest children’s treatment centre, providing therapy, medical services, rehabilitation, and family-centred support for children and youth with disabilities, developmental concerns, autism, communication disorders, and vision or hearing loss. Services are available across Peel, Halton, Dufferin, and surrounding communities.

For families looking for help with speech, language, communication, or developmental concerns, ErinoakKids is an important resource. Their services can help parents and caregivers better understand their child’s needs, access professional support, and take practical next steps when concerns arise. This can be a helpful place to begin when families want guidance from a trusted children’s treatment centre before deciding what type of support may be needed.

Communication CheckUp

Communication CheckUp is an online screening tool created for parents and legal guardians living in Halton, Pee, and Dufferin l by ErinoakKids. It is available for children from 6 months of age to June 30 of their junior kindergarten year and screens speech, language, social communication, fine motor, and gross motor development. Families receive instant results and suggested next steps based on their answers.

This can be a helpful starting point for families who want a quick, accessible way to check in on their child’s development before deciding whether additional support may be needed.
