*Next Program Starts: Thursday October 12th, 2023*
The main goal of the Welcome Home Program is to make space for newcomer families where they feel valued. Through this project families will be able to share their stories and lived experiences, have their strengths and contributions valued and validated, which ultimately will ensure that these families feel a sense of connection and belonging. Within an environment where everyone is actively involved in teaching and learning, the families will also learn from and with the staff of OPCC. Through this project OPCC not only is hoping to build strong connections with families, but it also hopes to connect families to the multitude of services offered in the Town of Oakville and the Halton Region.
This 8-week project engages newcomers in a culturally sensitive and collaborative learning journey within an environment of co-learning to achieve a deeper understanding of children’s development and effective parenting practices as they build relationships and feel a sense of belonging within their communities.
The goals of the Welcome Home Program are to facilitate a sense of belonging in newcomer families through participation in experiential learning opportunities, value their stories and experiences and provide a space where they can voice their understanding of what it is to be newcomer parents.
