Outdoor Recreation Programs

We are thrilled to provide opportunities for children to access the many benefits of outdoor learning and nature immersion. Fresh air, exercise and time spent in nature not only builds a deep connection to and sense of care for our natural world, but also provides many physical and mental health benefits.

Forest and Nature programs at OPCC follow the guiding principles of Forest and Nature schools in Canada, as outlined by the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada. We begin each session by provoking curiosity about the natural world through sharing artifacts or stories, then spend time doing activities in the nearby field and meadow, and walk to the Indian Ridge Trail, located just behind the centre. On the trail we hike, play games, explore the creek, and use natural materials to create, learn, imagine and grow.

Most of our time will be spent outdoors, rain or shine, unless in instances of extreme weather when we will set up indoors in our classroom space. Please dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty!

 Forest & Nature PA Day Programs

Where adventure meets education in the heart of nature!

Our Forest and Nature program sparks curiosity, fosters creativity, and builds a deep connection with the natural world through Indigenous-inspired land-based learning. Through hands-on exploration, storytelling, and guided outdoor experiences, children build teamwork, problem-solving skills, confidence, and resilience—while discovering the joy of learning in nature.

Led by our Outdoor Education Specialist and team, this program offers a meaningful blend of learning, movement, and fun in a natural setting.

This program is being offered on all Halton District School Board PA Days for the 2026/2027 school year:  

Friday October 9th
Friday November 27th
Friday February 5th
Monday April 19th
Friday June 4th

Program Details

Age Group: 4 to 8 years 
Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm
Cost: $64 per child per day
Drop Off/Pick-Up: Field Beside 481 North Service Rd W, Unit 25
Where: Indian Ridge Trail Forest
Supplies Needed: Water bottle, Nut-free lunch & snacks and a change of clothes
